I just love them, but they also make me sad all the same. For example, this picture shows children playing Hop Scotch circa. 1891, and judging by the size of the children, I would venture to guess they are about 10-12 years old, which would make their births around 1881 or 1879, and we know that they are no longer physically with us, but through the magic of photography, they remain as children, caught in time.
When I see pictures like this, I think what were they like? What were their names? How long did they live? Did they graduate school, or go to work soon after the picture was taken?
Perhaps I wonder too much.
