I had the most distinct pleasure of meeting R. Lee at a horror film convention a few years ago, where I was helping with security. (He was is the Texas Chainsaw movie prequels and a few others). Salt of the earth and a genuine, honest man. He sat patiently while hundreds of people came to his table and bought autographs, posed for pictures with them, talked to them without making them feel rushed or that he was doing them a favor. He had a mile wide grin on his face the whole time. A few young men in uniform showed up in line and when they got to his table, he stood and saluted them, asked them about their service and gave them autographed pictures for free and posed for snap shots. He said to each of them, "Thank you and God bless you", and it was from the heart. I was sitting at the table with him and he talked to me like he'd known me all his life. He asked me why I had such long hair and dressed so funny and when I told him it was to make him look better, he had a good, long laugh. When the show was over, he shook my hand, gave me a bear hug, patted me on the back and thanked me for spending the time with him. He was honestly amazed that so many people stood in line for hours to meet him. Hell of a man.
Geez Gregor, I envy you that experience. I would love to have experienced that, and to meet him!
Oh, and one more thing that someone said that day... "R. Lee is R. Lee, that ain't no acting..."
Damned right.
